With the natural hair movement going strong, I often still hear this "natural hair isn't for everyone". While I do agree with that on some level, I almost take it as some are often afraid of what there natural texture looks like. I know that we all don't have the Mya or Ananda Lewis texture (I may be showing my age here if some don't know who these ladies are) but isn't all texture beautiful in its own way? I look at tons of Instagram pictures from all the beautiful curly girls and the textures really do range from slight waves to kinky-coily. We all get a little bit of curl envy but it shouldn't take away from us embracing our own texture. With that said, those who choose not to wear their natural hair due to their job or simply what works for their lifestyle, I respect that. I know my daughter is still relaxed and has been since she was small, (this is when I didn't know better and was relaxing my own hair) wears her hair in braid outs because she wants to have that look. She has decided to transition (she is 14). I love all hair and only want us to embrace the way God made us, whether you rock a wash-n-go, twist out, braid out, or keep it straight. It's just about embracing your beauty and being okay with who you are vs feeling inadequate when your texture is showing.
