High porosity hair means your hair cuticle is raised instead of laying flat.
Typically, high porosity is often a sign of damaged natural hair. This can be from damage from over-manipulation, diet, dye, bleach or heat.
The cuticle is raised significantly higher than the base of the shaft and is broken or chipped. With your cuticle being raised, this means your strands catch onto each other. On a molecular level, this causes single strand knots and split ends and causes your hair to tangle and feel dry.
Moisture retention is the biggest struggle for this hair type.
